Should I work with a deity? Do I HAVE to work with deities? How do I know if a deity wants to work with me?? These are all questions I’ve been asked or I’ve seen asked more than almost anything else in the pagan and witchcraft communities. So on episode 195 of That Witch Podcast, "Should You Work with a Deity?" I answer those questions, and lay the groundwork preparation for this very workshop.
 
All too often deity worship is portrayed as this unrealistic, larger than life practice. Where you're cooking these elaborate meals as offerings, keeping an immaculate altar rotating perfectly with the seasons, meditating with them for an hour a day, while your gods bless you with the finest gifts in what must now be your problem-free life. 
 
Bunch of bullshit.
 
To be honest I find most deity worship online to be shown through a very narrow, outdated, and all around unhelpful lens. This is a sacred practice, and it's one to shape with respect and reverence, but it's also an area that overwhelms, confuses, and misguides many magickal practitioners. 
 
This workshop isn't deity- or pantheon-specific, so I won't be teaching you about the correspondences associated with Apollo, Ishtar, Freyja, etc. In fact, there won't be a list of gods and goddesses anywhere in our class. We'll be using our time together to discuss the broader concept of a deity, divine being, or higher power in general (an umbrella under which said gods and goddesses are) and how to use your unique approach to your witchcraft and magick to develop a safe, personal, and meaningful connection to any entities you hold in your spiritual beliefs.
